How can you become a paranormal investigator?

Discovering your abilities by yourself can take years. I first started to become interested in paranormal stuff when I was 14..I am now 18 and still learning. It involves patience, time and optimism, not to mention confidence. A quicker way of finding how sensitive to spirits you are would be to join a spiritualist church, visit a medium, or join a paranormal group. It is unlikely you will become famous, but you could try.Really, all it involves is thinking outside the box, having time confidence and patience.

I love to answer this question and I talk about it a lot when I speak to a class or during a conference.

The first thing you have to do is be SICK!

S-Skeptical

I-Inquisitive

C-Compassionate

K-Knowledgeable

In a nutshell you have to have to be interested in many topics like science, psychology, philosophy, and spiritualism. You need to have an open mind but not wide open. You have to be able to be highly skeptical.

Compassionate is important because you are dealing with people and emotions, and in many cases the people who call on you are either very scared or to the point they think they or someone in their house is close to going crazy.

Being knowledgeable of your equipment, how to use it well, and how to interpret your findings is very important. Understanding math, like statistics is good to have under your belt as well.

As far as your equipment, this is where a lot of people differ in their advice.

If you have a good amount of money you can buy:

-EMF/ELF meter

-Ion Reader

-Geiger Counter

-Thermal Camera (FLIR)

-Night Vision (IR) video cameras

-Full Spectrum Digital still cameras

-Digital HD voice recorders

-Torsion Field Meter

-Motion Detectors

-Various software (Sound, Graphic, and Video)

And many more expensive tools. The list above can cost more than $ 15,000

Many people start out with an old fashioned compass, voice recorder, camera, and notepad.

-Using the compass as an EMF detector. (Hey it's not high tech and not very sensitive but it does work!)

-The voice recorder for recording ghostly sounds known as EVP.

-A disposable camera is great for starting out! Gotta catch the spirit in the act right?

-A notepad to write your log. The time you take photos, EVP, and recording EMF readings, in the case of the compass, how aggressive the needle moves.

There are places that offer certifications. In fact I teach those classes for my organization. REMEMBER: You are NOT required to be "Certified".

The benefit to certification is to learn as much as you can in a very short amount of time, and gain some rudimentary experience. It's not for everyone, it's not required, and it can be expensive. You can learn everything you need to on the internet and through trial and error.

The final thing you need to do is just do it!
