How do the Greeks believe the world was created?

Greece

Most anciented Greece believed that the earth floated in th eocean like a cork in the water. (There were variations to this concept. For example, a person called Anaximander suggested that the earth was a cylinder with a rounded top, floating in the air.) The sky surrounded the earth, and beyond the sky was a region of fire. The sun, moon and stars were holes in the sky through which the fire could be seen.

The Ancient Greeks were of course Polytheistic- different Gods and Goddesses for different jobs. For temporary needs they had the Titans who were somewhat midway between full-fledged Gods and Goddesses, and mortals. Prometheus ( by the way it"s female in French) and Atlas were considered Titans.In the course of the creation of the world, according to Greek Mythology- there was a war or uprising between the legitimate Gods and the Titans. as a result of all this, such natural calam ities as Earthquakes arose ( maybe Atlas has been drinking on the job) and that was how they would explain things. Apollo was the Sun God, he existed from the beginning, the origins of the various planets was only loosely tied in- Mars of War and Venus of Love, and so on. Pluto, lord of the Underworld, did not become a Planet until l93l, and was recently demoted to a stable asteroid! It might be adeded that Dante, who was not an astronomer kind of theorized 9 levels of Hell and the very bottom level- Level 9 was Ice-bound0- as Pluto ( the planet) is too cold to support life as we know it. 9 Hells, 9 planets, interesting observation.- around l3l8 long after Polytheistic Greece had its day.
