After the spectator picks a card, he displays it to them openly and then secretly crimps the card. When the spectator shuffles the deck and hands it back, he lays it on the table and tells them to run their finger up the side and flick when they get the 'feeling' their card is there. Obviously, the finger just catches on the gap created by the crimped card and that is how they always cut to their selected card.
