There are no real statistics for UFO sightings. You can only compile information for sightings that find their way into official records. Many UFOs are eventually identified and therefor no longer UFOs.
When a person anywhere in the US sees something flying that they can't identify, who are they going to report it to; the military, the local airport, 911, or the local news. Each of those people may choose a different option. Who they contact and what becomes of that report can't guarantee that it will find its way into an official record from which statistics can be compiled.

Of the 600+ sightings reported every year, many of those are from America. The most well known is of course the 1947 crash sight in Rosewell, NM.
I have heard that there were sightings during both world wars, there could be more but those are the ones that I know about.
A. The US government would have no reason to do that, since... B. If there were UFO sightings with abductions, they would not be under the government's control.

It is hard to tell as not every sighting has been recorded, and some are hoaxes, but ever since man has lived on earth there have been UFO sightings. But well recorded sightings go back earlier that the 1600's.
One of the earliest recorded sightings occured in the late 1800's in rural Texas.
