While there isn't a real-life cult exactly like Visualize from "The Mentalist," there are various organizations and groups that exhibit similar characteristics, such as a charismatic leader, strong community ties, and a focus on personal transformation. Many self-help or wellness groups, sometimes referred to as "cults" in a more informal sense, can adopt cult-like dynamics. However, true cults often involve manipulative practices and a high level of control over members, which distinguishes them from more benign organizations.
I don't think Odd Future is an actual cult, but they seem to have gained a cult-like following; wouldn't classify them as a cult, still.
EST is a moderate form of brainwashing combined with high-pressure sales and recruiting tactics. This puts them in borderline cult territory. They have many cult-like characteristics, although maybe not enough to declare them unambiguously a cult. Where a true cult (like Scientology) tries to control every aspect of your life, EST scammers are mainly concerned with getting your money and turning you into a recruiter so they can get your family and friends money too.

The Latin root "cult" means worship or devotion. It is related to words like culture, cultivate, and cult.
Yeah dude. It's always censored when I'm watching cult films like "Edward Scissorhands."
Not in general, but some groups do have a cult following if they fall into a particular niche like the Sex Pistols, etc.
Oh, honey, let me break it down for you. The Cult and Blue Öyster Cult are two different bands with "cult" in their names, but that's where the similarities end. The Cult is a British rock band known for hits like "She Sells Sanctuary," while Blue Öyster Cult is an American band famous for "Don't Fear the Reaper." So no, they are not the same, but nice try.
It was not quite a cult, more of a society dedicated to mathematics, astronomy, religion, and philosophy, which Pythagoras himself coined.
I know some of it it goes like this Look in my eyes what do you see The cult of personality The cult of personality I know your here I know your dreams I've been everything you want to be I'm the cult of personality The cult of personality The cult of personality And during the few moments that we have left We want to talk right down to earth in a language that everybody here can easily understand."
Joseph Smith was a religious leader. Whether or not you believe that the religion he lead or that all religious are cult-like is your opinion.
