In the backs of old comics they used to sell amazing devices, the X-Ray Specs were one of them. The magic glasses supposedly let you "See the bones in your hand, see through clothes!"

Not really an X-ray system these were a diffraction grating that blurred the outline of the viewed object (the transparent flesh) and created a darker inner region (the bones)

In the real world similar, but much bulkier and much more expensive systems include:

  • Thermal imaging goggles working with infra red light or heat
  • Real X-ray systems which require an xray source behinf the object
  • Terahertz (or T wave) systems as installed at airports

it changed the world by helping people improve/help their eyesight, so they can see better. also, because of how many people use them & how popular they are today. they have grown into a giant thing.
