A BELIEF is a strongly held view about how reality functions.
In the Protestant church the system would be called doctrine or Theology. In the Catholic church it is catechism or dogma.

Doctrine are formal principles or beliefs which are taught by a faith community based on the scripture writing of the fath community. Dogma are established beliefs, opinions or principles. Doctrine is often held as dogma, but there may also be dogma that is not based on doctrine. Likewise there may be doctrine that a community does not hold as dogma.

The Assumption of Mary is the celebration of her being lifted body and soul (Assumed) into Heaven by Jesus Christ at the completion of her earthly life, and the Feast Day celebrating this is August 15th. This was declared as Dogma by Pope Pius XII in 1950. As a note, things aren't declared Dogma until their is a widespread disbelief in them; the Assumption of Mary is a belief that's been held by Christians since at least the 3rd Century.
A stereotype is a widely held but oversimplified belief or idea about a particular group of people or things. A misconception, on the other hand, is a mistaken or incorrect belief or idea about something. While stereotypes are often based on some element of truth, misconceptions are usually completely false.
