Sabrina is a name from ancient British mythology.

Locrine was the first (mythological) king of England. Locrine was married to Gwendolen, but fell in love with Estrildis. Locrine abandoned Gwendolen, and he and Estrildis had a baby daughter Sabrina (or Hafren, in a different version of the story).

Gwendolen raised an army and invaded England (different versions have her raise an army in different places). Gwendolen defeated Locrine in battle, and killed him (becoming queen herself).

Estrildis and Sabrina ran away, and either fell into the Severn and were drowned, or else were captured and drowned in the Severn. Sabrina became a water-nymph, the goddess of the Severn.
