In electronics, it is a circuit which repetitively produces a certain output. This may be a series of pulses or a repetitive waveform such as sine, sawtooth or ramp.

In mechanics, a pendelum is an oscillator.

An oscillator is the series and parallel combination of resistors and capacitors.
