The secret to magic is that there is no black or white, no good or evil, magic is simply put, the manipulation of naturally occurring forces by the hand and will of a (hopefully) ethical practitioner.

Making it work is like any other craft on the planet. It takes time, study, understanding, practice and a certain amount of dedication to the work to make it happen.

My best suggestion is to find someone who actually practices, and has been doing so for a number of years. Reading a book does not qualify as practicing. The person should also be someone you trust, and respect and who lives their craft, not just dabbles at it.
