The Pineal gland, its a small gland in the center of your brain. When you get into the relaxed state and start drifting off to sleep then it releases a chemical called DMT or dymethyl-tryptomine (I'm pretty sure that's how its spelled.) it is a powerful hallucinogenic causing your memories, thoughts, emotions, or whatever is on your min manifest into a situation, or image. Dreams are largely symbolic, but most of the time (if not all of the time.) have deeper meanings, or teachings that can help you in your life.
