The demons was driven from a man and the demons ask to be allowed to go into the swine instead of where they came from which would of been some sort of hell. Jesus let them go into the swine. the swine killed themselves other than be possessed.

The words in the KJV 'He suffered them' describe His permission, or that He allowed them to go there, not that He thought to destroy the pigs. The subsequent events only serve to demonstrate the natural intent of Satan and his followers 'to steal and to kill and to destroy.' The responsibility for the destruction of the herd rests solely with the demons.
