The word ghost itself is largely meaningless because it applies all sorts of connotations to manifestations of phenomena we can't really define to begin with. Apparition is the better word because it doesn't imply anything other than an unexplained non-hallucinatory visual experience.
There has been no research I am aware of that has ever tried to correlate frequencies of apparitions with any particular locations (or even types of locations - bars, cemeteries, homes, etc.), particular times of day, or any other factor, and any attempt to do so would be very unlikely to stand up to peer scrutiny until such time that someone comes up with a reasonable way to separate reports of hallucinations from apparitions, or even just weed out the exaggerations and outright storytelling.
Any claims that ghosts appear in places someone died are wholly unsupported but do seem to be part of the pop culture point of view even though some of the best research conducted in apparitional experiences (Phantasms of the Living, Gurney, Myers, & Podmore, 1886) suggests quite the opposite - that apparitions occur anywhere, anytime.
And, frankly, as anecdotal reports require a witness by definition, they are almost exclusively reported during times of day when living people are around, at locations living people visit. I mean, if a ghost appeared every night at 3:00 am in a copse of trees in the most unreachable wilds of Alaska, no one would know, would they?
