Gerald Gardner is credited with establishing modern Wicca as a recognized religion in Britain in the late 1930s. One of his disciples, Alex Sanders, established the variation known as the Alexandrian Tradition in the 1960s. Other significant individuals include Zsuzsunna Budapest, Starhawk and Margot Adler who wrote the foundational Drawing Down the Moon. Scott Cunningham also had an important influence on Wicca through his several books, including Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner.
