I think, the reason why did the fakir put a spell or curse on the paw was that he wanted to show and let the people know that they should not mess with fate. We used to know that people are greedy and selfish. Sometimes, people are tempted to any material and earthly things and with that, they used to grab the opportunity or even misuse it in order to satisfy their desire. For me, it is not right to desire any of those things for it will just lose and we cannot bring it to the next life. The real intention of the fakir was that a person should think first of what he or she want to wish and think wisely whether are there persons who ill be involved by these. Lastly, the best thing to do is to be contented of what you have and just be happy of it for the true happiness is that you live healthy and you are still alive.
that's all, i hope it help a lot.... by: jl
Sergeant Major Morris obtained the monkey's paw during his time serving in India. He received it from a fakir, who put a spell on it to grant three wishes to the holder, but warned that the wishes would come with consequences.
Since the Sergeant Major first speaks about being in India, we can assume that when he speaks of the Fakir who put the spell on the paw that the incident occurred while he was in India. By interpolation of what he says, we can infer that one of Morris' colleagues had a dispute about fate with a Fakir who cursed the paw to prove a point. After the initial man had his first two wishes he wished for death as his third wish and it was bequeathed to Morris afterwards.

No curse - died of natural causes
In "The Monkey's Paw," the author uses descriptive language and foreshadowing to create a sense of unease and tension. For example, the line "Outside, the night was cold and wet" sets a gloomy tone, while Mr. White's statement, "It had a spell put on it by an old fakir" hints at the supernatural elements that contribute to the eerie mood of the story.

Cats may put their paw in water out of curiosity, to test the temperature, or to play. Some cats also have a natural instinct to paw at water before drinking it, as they may have done in the wild to ensure it is safe to drink.
