Why do people assume that witches are bad?

Wicca ( properly pronounced witcha) is the Old English word for what we now call a shaman. The reason why we think of witches and pagans in general as being evil is that conquering religions always demonize the practices of the religions they replace. In fact, pagans are just as morally good or bad as everyone else, with this difference: pagans never have religious wars, or burn people at the stake, the way Christians do.

because during the middle ages and the turn of the century into the Renaissance, witches were persecuted to have been casting spells on people. Since the Renaissance was said to have been the "beginning of modern society" witches are still seen as evil and bad

Edit: Because in Christian culture, magic and witchcraft is sinful. Witches were known to poison peoples food, and kill peoples crops, put curses on people, and cause demonic chaos. This is because the devil was inside their soul, and had to be burned out.

However, in other places, witches have a better reputation. In Africa, many people go to the Sangoma, or witch doctor, who uses herbs, along with divination and magic, to heal people from sickness.

The word "bad" in a social context is often used in the same as "different from us, and we're right". In the case of witchcraft i is just another expression of religious and is neither better or worse than any other.

Most people think Wicca's are evil but i just think they can't expand their minds to accept that Wicca exist and that they are not evil but also think of Wizard of Oz, Sleeping Beauty , Snow White and lastly The little mermaid all poison peoples minds that witches are bad.

Because they do not do any responsible research on their own regarding Wicca and it's tenants. They simply believe what bigoted, biased, reactionary alarmists tell them about Wicca.

We live in a society that has historically been dominated by Christianity. Christians have demonized other religions for centuries. Through much of the history Christians have associated Wicca and Pagan religions with wichraft and devil worship. Many Christians believe and some still believe that the gods worshipped in other religions are the devil in disguise.
