The constellation Virgo is right in the center of it's annual trip across the sky - in other words, due south - at around 9:00 PM on May evenings. The stars change position in the sky every night, moving very slightly westward of where they were the previous night at the same time. Whatever position a star or constellation is in the sky at 9:00 PM on May 1st, it will be a year before it is back in exactly that position at 9:00 again. Logically, this means that all constellations aside from the circumpolar constellations (which can be seen all year), rise in the East, slowly move West, and eventually disappear below the Western horizon until next year when they rise again in the East.
