I practice yoga on a daily basis. Whenever I have a glass of red wine in
the evening I tend to get muscle cramps the next morning (commonly in my hamstrings). I don't understand the chemical relationship in the body but from my personal experience there is a definite link.
Dehydration can be a cause of leg cramps therefore, drinking water can help to prevent them. Sitting for long periods of time and not getting enough potassium can also cause leg cramps.
I do not know the medical reason for it -- but my mother developed an allergy to alcohol and if she had the smallest amount she would have terrible cramps. I seem to be developing the same thing. Even a half a glass of wine will cause me to have cramps. I would like to understand the cause as well.

I'm an RN, never heard of anyone complain of leg cramps with Coumadin. However leg cramps, redness swelling or tenderness in the calves can be signs of a DVT (blood clot in the leg). Probably your best bet would be to consult your doctor and rule out anything serious.
