I have been taking 300 mg Lamictal and 300 mg Lithium for a year. I can drink, but it doesn't seem to be as enjoyable to me as it once was. I seem to get affected by a very small amount of alcohol, and I feel icky for a day or so afterwards. My psychiatrist has told me that this occurs because Lamictal and alcohol are metabolized by the same enzymes in the liver, so the alcohol stays in your system for longer. I have also heard that it has something to do with GABA receptors in the brain.... Since I've been taking this combination, I have gotten really bad hangovers every time I drink- I feel it the next morning even after one glass. I have gotten really drunk a few times, and those were very unpleasant.
