Every creature on the planet needs water for their cells. The water helps create all sorts of things inside all of our cells, that's why humans typically die if they are dehydrated; the cells have basically stopped working.
So yes, whales do drink.
(And yes, the water they drink is salt water which is bad, but their bodies filter it.)
