To anyone who is interested: I have just completed a research investigation into mouthwash, and it's inhibitory effect on bacteria. One of the findings was that the alcohol-free mouthwash actually repeatedly had a greater inhibition zone than the mouthwashes containing alcohol. This study is in no way conclusive, but I figured it was better than no answer :]
The ingredients in Listerine mouthwash typically include water, alcohol, menthol, eucalyptol, thymol, and methyl salicylate. These ingredients work together to kill germs and freshen breath.
Listerine mouthwash typically contains around 21-27% alcohol by volume, depending on the specific product variant. This high alcohol content is intended to help kill bacteria and provide a strong antiseptic effect. However, there are also alcohol-free versions available for those who prefer to avoid alcohol in their oral care products. Always check the label for specific information on the variant you are using.
If it is toxic maybe. But if it is nontoxic NO.
The solvent is mainly water. The solutes are some alcohol usually (but not always) and other trace ingredients such as an anti-bacterial and some coloring.
Not from going without sleep. The alcohol will eventually kill you, though.
Yes, mouthwash can effectively kill plaque-causing bacteria when used as part of a comprehensive oral hygiene routine that includes brushing and flossing.

If this happens you should contact the Poison Control Center, but most hand sanitizers only contain the active ingredient of ethyl alcohol which is "drinking" alcohol and will likely not kill an adult. Do not intentionally swallow it or, as some people have done, ... do not gargle with it ... instead use Listerine or another brand of mouthwash for that, it is also mostly alcohol but is made to be in the mouth instead of on skin.
Mouthwash can repel some insects on plants due to its antiseptic properties, but it is not a reliable or recommended method for controlling pests. Other insecticidal sprays specifically designed for plants are more effective and safer to use.
One household product that can be used on the lawn is mouthwash. The gold mouthwash sprayed without diluting on the lawn will help control the mosquito population. Borax can be used on the lawn to kill ants. Cinnamon sprinkled on the lawn is also a good bug killer.
