Carling claims to be the best-selling beer in Britain, the claim is repeated on Wikipedia (without a source) but those claims may be outdated. According to an article from 2005, "Carling has been the nation's best-selling beer since the 1970s. Among UK lagers it has 22 per cent of the market, well ahead of Fosters (16 per cent) and Stella Artois (15 per cent)."

According to this About.com article from 2008, Stella Artois had been the best-selling lager in Britain for a few years, before being beaten by Carlsberg recently. (But, according to the article, even that has been debated)

Yet another source I have claims that Newcastle is the winner, but with no stats I'm willing to dismiss that out of hand.

So, I suppose it's a highly debatable question, but I'm willing to give the crown to Carlsberg for the moment seeing as their reference was backed up and the most recent.
