A bottle of 28 year old whiskey is different then a bottle of whiskey that is 28 years old. The aging process ends when it enters a glass bottle. Once it is removed from the cask it's value and quality is set and unlike a wine it won't improve with age.

The value of a 30-year-old bottle of McNaughton whiskey can vary significantly based on factors such as its rarity, condition, and market demand. Generally, collectible bottles of aged whiskey can range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars. For a precise valuation, it's best to consult recent auction results or specialty liquor appraisers.
The year a bottle of whiskey is made is typically found on the label, often near the brand name or on the back of the bottle. Some whiskeys, especially aged varieties, may also indicate the bottling date or the age statement, which tells you how long the whiskey has been aged in barrels. Additionally, you can check for any embossed markings or codes on the bottle that may provide further details about its production date. If the information isn't clearly stated, researching the distillery's practices or visiting their website can also be helpful.

My bottle of Buchanan's 12 year would not pour a drop. I inverted the bottle and sucked a bit. It worked, but what an undignified way to try to enjoy a new (to me) whiskey. Next I tried to pound out the plastic device with a wooden chopstick and a small hammer. I managed to break the ciruilar insert into several small peices and pulled the them out with tweezers. I tipped the bottle and attemped to pour into a small glass. Out came a small glass ball but no Whisky. I then found that the whiskey would pour when the bottle is held at just the right angle. A few bits of plastic and wood from the chopstick are still comming out with the whiskey so be careful if you try this method. Really, what's wrong with there people? I don't need help regulating the amount of whiskey I pour. I have to go now, there's something stuck in my throat. This may be the same problem I had with a bottle of whiskey recently. To solve it I inverted the bottle and gave it a bit of a shake up and down. This released a few drops at first and then the whiskey started flowing more easily once air was getting into the bottle. Experiment with the right angle that will allow whiskey out of the bottle and air in. I think these bottles may be designed for use in overhead jiggers (nip pourers) in bars or something like that.
