To me, being English, a caddie box is a tea-caddy. A tea-caddy is a box, jar, canister, or other receptacle, in which loose leaf tea is kept. There are tea-bags in mine!
Tea now comes in tea bags and are usually sold in cardboard boxes. Back in the day, 1800's 1900's tea was very very expensive, so the tea was locked in the tea caddy to prevent servants stealing it.
I used to buy tea loose from a local shop and kept it in a ziplock. Last night I found some in the back of my cupboard and had a cup with my husband. It was fresh and delicious! We think it was about 4 years old.
