Music is a dynamic thing, and so instruments have to be dynamic to keep up with it.
Minor alterations to the design of an instrument (soundhole shape, tuning etc.) may led to that instrument being superior in terms of sound quality or ease of use. It's only a matter of time before every musician wants to adopt the new instrument to have its benefits, and in this way the old, cruder instrument is replaced by a better one. This is especially the case if there is a recent change in musical style that demands the newer qualities in an instrument to perform it.
It's natural selection in action, and instruments evolve as a result.
well you'd have to be a nerd to want to know that but... there are so many even i don't know!
It is best to start a child off on a string instrument. Stings are harder to play than brass instruments so, mastering a string early is the best bet.
They didn't know about "Pangea", so it wasn't important to them. This is a modern concept.
The transition between Middle English and Modern English took place slowly and at different times in different places. Chaucer (1380) is clearly Middle English, and Shakespeare (ca. 1600) is clearly Early Modern. Malory's Morte D'Arthur (1485 or so) is probably the earliest major work which is Early Modern English. The distinction between Early Modern English and later kinds of Modern English is harder to draw, because Early Modern English is essentially Modern English with occasional aspects of older English. These older aspects only gradually became less common in English and some of them have still not disappeared. (Consider, for example, Darth Vader's line "What is thy bidding, my master?") An end date for Early Modern of the end of the seventeenth century is somewhat arbitrary but as good as any other.
The 'Early Modern' period referred to by historians is roughly the period from 1450-1750. This period is so-called as the Early-Modern period because this was the time that the Renaissance occured in Europe, where many new ideas, art forms, scientific discoveries were made that were the foundation stones of the making of the modern world.
Shakespeare's language was very flowery and elaborate. It sounds overly complicated to modern ears, but people at the time would have understood it perfectly. Furthermore, Shakespeare invented a lot of modern words and phrases, so modern language owes him a huge debt of gratitude.
Guitars were developed from early guitar like instruments so he exact date of the first modern guitar is difficult to determine: * Thousands of years ago - tantar and sitar developed in India. The name guitar comes from the original name for sitar * 3300 years ago Hittites played stringed guitar like instruments * 40 CE the Romans have a cithara which is brought to Spain and combined with the Moorish oud * 8th century CE - 6 stringed instruments in use in Europe * 12th century CE - 4 string guitars in use, some with central sound holes * 15th and 16th century the Spanish have guitar like, but lute-tuned, instruments * 1779 CE first six string guitars in Italy - built by the Vincaccia family * Modern guitars in place (look, size, tuning) in the 1850's
Baroque orchestras typically use period instruments, so the instruments that baroque composers would have originally composed for. This can create a more authentic experience for audience members with a sound that isn't heard with modern instruments.
Mass transit is a fairly modern invention anyway, so it really depends on your definition of 'early'. Buses, trams, trolley buses and trains have all been used.
An orchestra is a sizable instrumental ensemble that contains sections of string, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments. A band is usually a smaller group of musicians, often with no stringed instruments, while an orchestra may have up to hundred or so members. Bands have existed for centuries, as they accompanied armies in the field and were used as signaling devices. Thus they tended to focus on loud instruments such as brass and percussion. More modern bands used primarily for entertainment, have come to include some of the quieter instruments. Because of their size, modern orchestras are fewer in number and require more support from patrons than do modern bands.

Percussion is so named because the instruments are "struck" or "hit" to make sound.
