That is an interesting question! The answer is that ANY gas can cause harm to the environment. Even Nitrogen and Oxygen can do so if the concentrations get too high.

The big issue gases that cities have right now though are Nitrous Oxides, Carbon Monoxide, Sulfur Dioxide and Ozone.

These are all nasty gases we really don't want to breathe any more then we have to. They come primarily from cars and power plants. Much of the pollution we see in our cities today comes from heating and cooling our homes and businesses.

An awesome first step in making our world a better place is to reduce the amount of energy you consume. This makes a large impact on the air you breathe. If we all do our part, we could all possibly get a few extra years out of our bodies PLUS we could reduce our need to ship oil into our countries.

A:Greenhouse gases, especially carbon dioxide and methane, are causing an enhanced greenhouse effect which is then causing global warming. This warming of the earth is producing climate change.
