The use of alcohol as a transportation fuel results in different levels of tailpipe emissions than hydrocarbon fuels like gasoline or diesel. Typically hydrocarbon emissions are lower, aromatic concentrations are higher and sulfur emissions are nonexistent.

However when the total life ctcle of the product is examined the emsission picture becomes cloudy:

  • Hydrocarbon fuels are extracted from the ground with some losses to the atmosphere. They must be refined producing fugitive emissions and carbon dioxide from distillation heating.
  • Alcohol requires the production of grain with a support network of fertilizer production which has emissions. The fermentation and distillation of alcohol creates carbon dioxide. Alcohol when used has a lower energy density and creates more pollution per kilometer traveled than hydrocarbon fuels.

What do you use that produces air pollution?

there are lots of things people use on a day to day basis that pollute the are ... for example : running vehicles pollute the air, even little things like smoking contribute to air pollution... really anything that burns will pollute the air!

How can a gas station pollute the environment?

Answer: Gas stations can pollute the environment in several ways: * Fuel lost from storage tanks can pollute soil and groudwater * Waste oil from storage tanks can pollute the soil and groundwater * Hydrocarbon fumes from vehicle fuelling can contaminate the air * Spills from fuelling can contaminate the soil and groundwater and run off into the sewers * Vapors from storage tank filling can pollute the air * Exhaust from idling cars can pollute the air * Drips of oil and antifreeze can run off into sewers * Acids and antifreeze from spilled batteries or sales areas can pollute the soil

Why is ethanol added to gasoline?

Ethanol is added to gasoline to reduce air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions. It helps gasoline burn more cleanly and efficiently, resulting in lower levels of harmful pollutants being released into the atmosphere. Additionally, ethanol is a renewable fuel source that helps reduce the reliance on fossil fuels.

Why is ethanol a good fuel?

the answer is yes but not recommended.gasoline is much heavier than ethanol.ethanol is used where certain needs of the engine and its use are very different.gasoline in a every day daily driver should only be used for that vehicle using ethanol in a daily will not only cause heavy deposit build up on the valves but cause extreme heat and pressure inside the combustion chambers causing critical stress on the valve train,it can destroy pistons pre-maturellyand inevitably will stress the connecting rods.therefore i would not recommend using ethanol in stock vehicles.high horsepower engines that are designed to withstand above and beyond stock engines well ethanol is good for these engines and should really be used for this purpose.

What are two things that pollute the air?

Burning fossil fuels from vehicles and industrial processes release pollutants like carbon monoxide and nitrogen dioxide into the air, contributing to air pollution. Additionally, emissions from agricultural activities, such as methane from livestock and ammonia from fertilizers, also contribute to air pollution.

Are there any gas stations in the Mechanicsville Va. 23116 that sells ethanol free gasoline?

Not in Mechanicsville. Your closest location may be the Hanover Air Park. They have 100 octane aviation gasoline which is ethanol free. Usually pricy.

Why would the engine light come one if you put ethanol gas in a non ethanol gas car?

that could be a pretty long list. I will cover the big ones. There is approximately 20% less energy in ethanol than there is in gasoline. It is possible that the computer module notices the difference and cannot compensate in the air fuel mix adequately to get a clean, efficient burn. Ethanol is a corrosive, or at least much more corrosive than gasoline or blended gasoline. Over time, ethanol will eat through rubber based gaskets, seals and hoses. That will cause all kinds of problems for your car from the fuel pump, right down to the injectors.

Why is it bad to pollute the air?

WE BREATHE the air. If we pollute it, we need air, so we breathe it in and get sick.

Why is ethanol being added to gas?

Ethanol is a product that can be made agriculturally, for corn for example (or many other plants). Gasoline is made from petroleum. So, if you have extra corn and not enough petroleum, you can blend ethanol and gasoline to make gasohol, which extends your supply.

Does air driven cars have heat?

The car can be powered solely by air, or combined (as in a hybrid electric vehicle) with gasoline/diesel/ethanol or electric plant and regenerative braking.

Do electric cars pollute?

No. The electric cars don't pollute air, because noxious gas doesn't get out of the tupe and in such way doesn't pollute air.

How is ethonal used as a fuel?

CORNAnswer:Ethanol fuels can be made from many plant materials containing starches and sugar. This would include cellulose waste, grains, potatoes, sugar cane, or waste foods/Obviously the worst sources would be the usable food products as they can be purposed for human or animal consumption.Industrially, ethanol can be made from etylene from natural gas production, ot ethylene created as a by-product in petroleum or petrochemical manufacture.

What is the plural of pollute?

The plural of pollute is pollutes. As in "the factory pollutes the air".

How much air is used to combust a gallon of gasoline?

It takes 1200 cubic feet of air or 8977 gallons of air to combust one gallon of gasoline.

Did airships pollute the air?

Yes. The engines burnt Gasoline or Diesel which are fossil fuels giving off carbon dioxide. In those days these engines were very "Dirty" polluters.

Does marijuana pollute the air?

no.
