NO = Nitric Oxide (+2)

Do not confuse with

N2O = Nitrous Oxide ( laughing gas) (+1)

NO2 = Nitrogen dioxide (+4)

N2O4 = Dinitrogen Tetroxide (+4)

Also the NO3^(-) Nitrate anion(+5)

NO2^(-) Nitrite anion (+3)

N^(3-) the nitride ion as in Na3N (-3)

The different names indicate different oxidation states for nitrogen, as indicated!!!!
