Metamorphic rock is igneous, sedimentary, or other metamorphic rock that has undergone a change due to heat and/or pressure. The change could be an alteration in mineralogy, a physical restructuring of existing minerals, or a recrystallization of existing minerals--giving the metamorphic rock a new set of characteristics which indicate that change.

Igneous rocks are based from the cooling of magma, Sedimentary rocks are based from the deposition of material at the earth's surface, and metamorphic rocks (Transformation of pre-existing rocks) are basically rocks which have had, for example, contact or regional metamorphism happen. Contact and regional metamorphism is basically different degrees of pressure and temperature which foliate a rock.

Igneous rocks are made from melted rocks (magma) that has cooled and hardened back into a rock form.

Sedimentary roe made of eroded rock particles that have been pasted together through pressure of some sort.

Metamorphic rocks are made of sedimentary, igneous, and other metamorrphic rocks that have undergone enormous amounts of heat and pressure, changing them.
