Well, first off we need to know what sound and light is.

Sound is the vibrations caused by molecules at the molecular level or something. In other words, it's vibrations. Don't shake your arm and expect to hear something, though. The vibrations are different than that, but you can hit a desk to hear the vibrations go out into the air.

So, you cannot hear anything in space, as there are nomolecules to hear vibrate.

Light, however, is more complex. It's rays, which are unaffected by vacuum and molecules; unless the molecules reflect them. Your eyes see reflected light, and also reflect some back, or something like that.

Light is also photons I think. They hold everything together, meaning that if anything went faster it'd tear them apart.

How does light move faster though? Well, as far as I know no one knows, but if I had to guess I'd say that it's because light holds together molecules, so if the vibrations (Sound) moved faster than light it'd just not be able to move at all.

Why was light from the rocket seen before the sound of rocket was heard?

Because light travels significantly faster than sound. Speed of light (in vacuum) = 299 792 458 m/s Speed of Sound (at sea-level ) = 340.29 m/s

Why you see light first then sound after?

Light travels faster than sound, so when an event occurs, the light reaches our eyes first followed by the sound reaching our ears. This difference in speed creates the perceived delay between seeing the event and hearing it.

Is electricity faster than sound?

Yes. In air, sound travels at about 300 or 330 meters/second (it varies, depending on the temperature - also, sound in water or steel, for example, is quite a bit faster). But an electrical signal can go at about 2/3 the speed of light in a vacuum - that would be about 200,000 kilometers/second.

Can light travel faster than sound?

Under normal circumstances, no. The speed of light in a vacuum is roughly 300,000,000 meters/second, while the speed of sound through air is 340 meters/second. However light does not travel 3x109 m/s inside a medium, and recent experiments have shown there are ways to slow light down to a crawl. In such a medium, usually a crystal structure, sound could indeed travel faster than light.

Does light travel faster than sound?

No. Sound is a conductive vibration that travels more slowly than light in any real-world environment. Sound travels at about 1,100 feet per second in air, and light travels at 186,000 miles per second in a vacuum and nearly as fast in air (although not as fast in glass, diamond, or other transparent solids). The large difference in speed is why you see a flash of lightning before you hear the thunder it creates. Sound is created by a wave that essentially pushes particles into the next particle. The speed of this wave is determined by the material it is traveling through. Something with high density and rigidity, such as steel, conducts a sound wave considerably faster than air (20,000 feet per second). If you were to have an object of infinitely high density and rigidity, sound could travel as faster as light. However, because it still boils down to the maximum velocity of the particles in the wave, it would not be able to exceed the speed of light.

Whats faster sound or light?

Light is about 800,000 faster (compared to the speed of sound in air).

Is light faster than sound or sound is faster than light?

Light is faster than sound. Light travels through empty space at a speed of about 186,282 miles per second (299,792 kilometers per second), whereas sound travels through air at about 1,125 feet per second (343 meters per second).

Why is it that lightning travels faster than sound?

Light speed is much faster than the speed of sound, ergo the light you see in lightning is visible, before you here the sound.

Is sound faster than the eyesight?

No, sound is not faster than eyesight. Light travels faster than sound, with light moving at approximately 299,792 kilometers per second in a vacuum, compared to sound traveling at 343 meters per second in the air at room temperature.

Why you see a distant event before you hear it?

Light travels much faster than sound - about a million times faster. When an event happens at a distance, light reaches your eyes almost instantly, allowing you to see it first. Sound, on the other hand, travels much slower, taking some time to reach your ears, which is why you hear the event after seeing it.
