Well, as humans it is in our "job" to ruin things. So in turn, when we see something we like, such as a natural landform, we tend to destroy it. We decide to camp there. We leave our garbage everywhere. We "do our business" down the side of a mountain. We cut down trees and let to soil erode away. There are many factors but those are just some of them.
