This 'recycling' can happen at convergent plate boundaries. When two plates are moving towards each other, the plate of lower density will slip under the more dense one. The less dense plate will sink back into magma, and melt. Then, that magma under the crust leaks out at divergent boundaries, creating new crust.

Where does the old lithosphere go when it is recycled?

Old lithosphere is recycled back into the Earth's mantle through the process of subduction. As tectonic plates converge, one plate is forced beneath the other and descends into the mantle along a subduction zone. This process allows the old lithosphere to be recycled and remelted into the mantle, contributing to the movements and dynamics of Earth's tectonic plates.

What are the large thin plates that move relative to one another on the outer surface of earth called?

How are plastic plates recycled?

Plastic plates are recycled in the same fashion that other plastic materials are recycled. The plates are separated, ground into chips, washed, and then melted.

What is the difference between Continental plates and Tectonic plates?

Continental plates are tectonic plates. They are tectonic plates upon which continents rest, and they move as do all tectonic plates. Basically, there is no difference, other than the fact that oceanic plates are another type of tectonic plate.

Is tectonic plates solid?

Yes. Tectonic plates are in fact mostly solid.

Are the tectonic plates in the earths inner core?

No the tectonic plates are on top of the crust.

Tectonic plates float on what?

The tectonic plates float on the lithosphere. This overlies the asthenosphere.
