Since Nitride has an oxidation state of -3 ( N3- )and Barium has an oxidation state of +2, or Ba2+, then we balance out the charges to obtain the chemical formula, or Ba3N2, which brings the overall oxidation state to 0

Since Barium is Ba is +2 and Nitride is -3, they are balanced when 2 atoms of Barium (+6) are joined to 2 atoms of Nitride (-6), so the formula is Ba3N2.
