Well ethanol is burned according to the equation:

C2H5OH(g) + 3 O2(g) → 2 CO2(g) + 3 H2O(l); (ΔHr = −1409 kJ/mol)

where delta h (-1409 kJ/mol) amount of energy given off per one mole of ethanol which is combusted.

There are two ways to harness the energy given off:

Internal combustion engine -like a car the explosion caused by ethanol and oxygen is used to move a cylinder.

But for electricity the ethanol will be burned and the heat used to heat water until it turns to steam. The pressure generated by the steam is used to turn a turbine which rotates magnets around a coil of wire which generates electricity!

hope it helps!

Is ethanol a good conductor of electricity?

no. it isn't. i dunno why, but when we did an experiment, ethanol didn't conduct electricity. what we did was to submerge a set of wires and metals that are supposed to light up a light bulb. ethanol didn't make it light up...tap water did. also sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid. hope this helps.

Can steam distillation of ethanol be done using a mixture of ethanol and water?

Yes, steam distillation of ethanol can be done using a mixture of ethanol and water. The mixture will allow for separation of the ethanol from the water by taking advantage of the difference in boiling points between the two compounds.

Is distilled ethanol similar to pure ethanol?

Yes, distilled ethanol is similar to pure ethanol. Distilled ethanol is produced using distillation to purify the ethanol, resulting in a high level of purity. Pure ethanol refers to ethanol that is free from impurities, and distilled ethanol typically meets this criteria.

Does Bactranol stand for Bacterial Transformation Ethanol?

Yes. Bactranol or Bacterial Transformation ethanol can be used to convert cellulose directly into ethanol using complex marine bacterium that can convert waste green material into ethanol. This is a method of Ceetol production. Ceetol is the abbreviation for Cellulosic Ethanol. (CeEtOl - Cellulosic Ethanol OL - denotes Alcohol)

Why is water a better conductor than ethanol?

Water is a better conductor than ethanol because it contains ions that can move freely and carry electrical charges, while ethanol does not dissociate into ions as readily. This means that water can facilitate the flow of electricity more easily than ethanol.

Does sodium chloride conduct electricity in ethanol?

No, sodium chloride does not conduct electricity in ethanol because ethanol is a nonpolar solvent that does not dissociate ionic compounds like sodium chloride. Sodium chloride only dissolves in ethanol, it does not ionize to form free ions that can conduct electricity.

Can ethanol with water conducts electricity?

yes it can.

Why ethanol does not conduct electricity?

Ethanol is a covalent compound that does not ionize in solution. In order to conduct electricity, a substance needs to contain free ions that can move and carry electric charge. Since ethanol does not dissociate into ions when dissolved in water or in its pure state, it cannot conduct electricity.

What is a major drawback of ethanol?

Two drinks and I have to get a taxi home. As an energy source, the process of concentrating ethanol consumes a lot of energy. It depends on who you believe, but the amount of energy consumed may exceed the amount of energy in the ethanol created. If that's so, then ethanol may be a useful form of energy (in the same was as electricity is), but not a useful source of energy.

Why copper sulphate is able to conduct electricity in water but not ethanol?

Copper sulfate dissociates into ions in water, allowing the ions to move and carry an electric current. Ethanol does not dissociate into ions as easily as water, so it is not able to conduct electricity as effectively.

What is the process for extracting THC using ethanol extract?

The process for extracting THC using ethanol extract involves soaking the cannabis plant material in ethanol to dissolve the THC. The mixture is then filtered to remove plant material, and the ethanol is evaporated to leave behind a concentrated THC extract.

HOW DO I CALCULATE THE PERCENTAGE BY MASS OF ETHANOL IN A MIXTURE OF ETHANOL AND WATER?

Divide the mass of the ethanol by the sum of the mass of the ethanol + that of the water and multiply by 100. Mass ethanol/(Mass ethanol + mass H2O) (x100)
