∙ 14y agoOxygen was a waste product given off by some of the first bacteria that appeared on Earth. These bacteria performed photosynthesis, and gave off oxygen as waste. Eventually the oxygen built up in the atmosphere, killing off these early bacteria and leaving an oxygen-rich environment for you and me.
