they are similar because they are all precipitation and a form of water. rain is liquid. sleet is liquid that freezes before it hit the ground but then melts when it does hit the ground (like a slushy) and hail is completely frozen into a chunk of ice

Both Rain and Hail are similar in the way they are formed. The only difference being, if rain drops are cooled to very low temperatures during the process of condensation, they come down as Hail Stones....

I believe you mean to ask the difference between rain, sleet, snow, and hail. Here are the differences.

Rain: Water droplets falling from clouds, and remaining liquid the entire journey

Sleet: Water droplets falling from clouds, that freeze on their way to the ground.

Snow: Water freezing into ice crystals in the cloud, then falling to the ground.

Hail: A droplet of water freezing in the clouds, then falling lower into the cloud. It gathers more moisture, then winds push it back up into the colder air, making that layer of moisture freeze. It falls again, gathers more moisture, and the process repeats. The stonger the winds, the larger the hail will become before the winds arn't able to throw it back up again, and it falls.
