Sedimentary rocks are the result of erosion, deposition, and cementation of various types of rock and rock particles. Igneous rock is the result of solidification of molten material. Metamorphic rocks are the result of temperature and/or pressure changes in a previously existing rock type.

a sediment is the little chunk of rock that has been separated due to erosion or weathering and a sedimentary rock is the actual rock formed from many layers of these sediments that have been transported to a lake/sea bed or mouth of a river by water, wind, ice or gravity. a sedimentary rock is formed by crystals of salts that act as a glue that cements these layers together or the top layers squash onto the bottom layers and compact together.

What type of rock can turn into sedimentary rock?

Any rock type; metamorphic, sedimentary, or igneous.

Can sedimentary rocks come from other sedimentary rocks?

Yes. Sedimentary rock can weather and form the material for new sedimentary rock.

What is the formation of sedimentary rock?

the formation of a sedimentary rock is first weathering. Weathering breaks into smaller piece's. Next is erosion. Erosion is when it moves the sediment to different places. Deposition after that and what deposition do is forming a sedimentary rock when it rains, snow ect. It slows the rock formation down and less energy and sediment will be on the sedimentary rock. Last it is compaction. and that squeezs the sedimentary rock together

When sediment turns into sedimentary rock does sedimentary rock turn back to sediment?

Sedimentary rocks can turn back into sediment by a process of weathering and erosion.

How can sedimentary rock becomes a metamorphic rock?

When the metamorphic rock breaks down into sediment. Thus, making the new rock sedimentary because when sediment forms together over time it makes it sedimentary rock

How did sedimentary rock got the name?

It is called this because it is formed from different kinds of sediment.

What do sedimentary rocks begin as?

Sedimentary rock starts as sediment.

Where can strata can be found sedimentary rock or igneous rock?

Sedimentary Rock. Strata is layers of sedimentary rock that form from the deposition of sediment.

Can a sedimentary rock turn back into a deposit of sediment?

Yes! The process of weathering can "break down" a sedimentary rock and turn it back into a sediment.

Rock type that is formed when sediment is lithified?

Sedimentary rock can be formed from lithified sediments.

What can transform igneous rock into sedimentary rock?

Igneous rock can become sedimentary if it is weathered into sediment and then lithified.

Why is a sedimentary rock called a sedimentary rock?

Because it was originally a sediment, such as sand or mud, but was then lithified into a rock.
