The amount of space in a rock that holds air or water is called porosity. Porosity is a measure of the void spaces in a rock and can vary depending on the rock type and how compacted it is. It is an important factor in determining how easily fluids like air or water can flow through the rock.
To my knowledge, there is not known to be an empty space in the mantle. Earthquake seismic waves travel through the Earth in different ways as they change from crust to mantle. Such a void would have probably been detected by now, as the waves would NOT travel through a void - they travel through solids and liquids (but not the solid of the Earth's core).
Porosity is a measure of the void spaces in a material, typically expressed as a percentage of total volume. It indicates the amount of pore space available for fluids to flow through a substance, such as rock or soil. High porosity allows for greater fluid flow, while low porosity restricts fluid movement.
The water will go through the soil but not as fast as the regular-or dirt but sand it will go through very slow butt if you have very little sand it will go through it just a little bit faster than all that sand that you put in a jar to play with or stor away some time for your kids or your self to pla with butt any wayhe water will go through mud and dirt faster than sand but you should know that wright. Hopefully you don't know that, because it is WRONG! In fact, the opposite is true. Water flows through the tiny void spaces between the soil particles. That is, the larger the void spaces the greater the velocity of water flowing through the soils. So now we just need to know the void ratio of different types of soils. In simplest terms, the smaller the particles, the smaller the void ratio. However, the void ratio is also dependent on the angularity and shape of the soil, the moisture content of the soil and the density of the soil. But for all things equal, the velocity of water following through the following soil types are listed in order of greatest to smallest: Boulders (Fastest) Gravel (Fast) Sand (Average) Silt (Medium Slow) Clay (Slow) This is a very simplified answer.
Electromagnetic energy from the Sun crosses the interplanetary void in about 8 minutes to reach Earth. The energy reaches us as electromagnetic radiation in a very wide range of wavelengths. Some of these wavelengths can be sensed directly by humans as heat and light. Some wavelengths (frequencies) are transformed by interaction with matter into other wavelengths that interact with the hydrosphere, biosphere, etc. to make life on Earth possible.
Energy is transferred through the void of space primarily by electromagnetic radiation, such as light and heat. In space, electromagnetic waves travel in the form of photons, radiating energy from one point to another. This transfer of energy is crucial for processes like solar radiation, which powers the Earth's climate and sustains life.
radiation
Energy in space is mainly transferred through radiation, as there is no medium like air or water for conduction or convection. Electromagnetic radiation, such as light and heat, can travel through the vacuum of space and transfer energy from one place to another. This is how energy from the Sun reaches Earth.
radiation
The sun's energy is transferred through space in the form of electromagnetic radiation, primarily as sunlight. This radiation travels as waves of energy that do not require a medium to propagate, meaning they can travel through the vacuum of space. When this radiation reaches Earth, it warms the planet and provides the energy needed for life.
radiation
Void means empty.
What fraction of the soil volume is void space
Heat is transferred through Convection, Conduction, and Radiation. Convection is heat transferred through a liquid medium such as air, as felt from your furnace. Conduction is through a solid medium. One instance of this takes place through the bottom of a cooking pan. Radiation is transferred through a void in the form of low frequency light waves, or infra-red radiation. This can easily be observed by moving in and out of a shadow into the sun. The air temperature around you remains constant, but you instantly feel the heat of the sun. That's from the sun's radiation.
Void space is an empty compartment not used for cargo or ballast purpose.
If you are asking about a box filled with a gas, then heat transfer can modeled as conduction through a solid. The requirement would have to be no fluid flow (obviously there is movement at the micro level), and the conductive heat transfer coefficient would be very low.Convection heat transfer is dependent on that conductive heat transfer coefficient of the liquid and is based on something called the Nusselt number. If you are asking about heat transfer through a completely void space, then heat would travel by means of radiation.
Void ratio is defined as the ratio of the volume of the void space compared to the volume of the solid particles.
