well, I can assure you they don't make weather, but they do make weather forecasts of many different types. They also have a hand in making the things used to forecast and observe weather, such as satellites, radar facilities, computer models, and sounding equipment used to measure atmospheric conditions above the surface (usually complex radar set-ups or "weather balloons" loaded with observing equipment).

hi and the answer to that questin is Isobars and isotherms are lines on weather maps which represent patterns of pressure and temperature, respectively. They show how temperature and pressure are changing over space and so help describe the large-scale weather patterns across a region in the map.

Where does the national weather service gets its info for its weather maps?

Satellites. 2nd answer: There is a network of weather reporting stations in the US - many of them at airports - who report temperature, visibility, dew point, wind strength and direction, barometer readings, and so forth to the National Weather Service. Using this information, along with satellite photos and RADAR readings, they draw up and analyze weather maps.

How do meteorologists combine data from weather radar and weather satellites to gather information about the atmosphere?

The National Weather Service makes most of the national maps you see at the Hydrometeorological Prediction Center in Camp Springs, MD. Meteorologists there analyze observed data from both surface observation stations and weather baloons to determine existing weather patterns. These maps are then sent across the country for use to assist forecasters across the nation. The surface map, (usually the one you see on TV) comes primarily from ground observations, and they draw lines of equal pressure (isobars) across the map to get a general idea of the basic weather pattern because the pressure values give clues as to what type of weather is occuring. You can also draw lines of equal temperature (isotherms) and equal dewpoint (isodrosotherms) to get a better picture of what is happening. Forecast maps, a part of the new National Digital Forecast Database are produced at each of the 122 National Weather Service local Weather Forecast Offices. There meteorologists use the latest observed data and computer models to produce a 7 day forecast.
