Best Answer

since the molecule has two bonds of the oxygen to the hydrogen, this cause the water molecule to be bent hence the electronegative does not cancel out. Therefore this makes the water molecule polar.

It also shrink as temperature approaches 0C

What is a unique property of water Describe the property and explain the chemical or physical reason that causes water to have the property?

Hydrogen bonding causes water molecules to connect . The energy required to break multiple hydrogen bonds causes water to have a high heat of vaporization; that is, a large amount of energy is needed to convert liquid water, where the molecules are attracted through their hydrogen bonds, to water vapor, where they are not.

Why does water clump soil together?

Hydrogen bonding

Does KF form hydrogen bonding?

in water it surely can

What are intermolecular hydrogen bonds?

The hydrogen bonding present between the two molecules is known as intermolecular hydrogen bonding, the molecules may be similar or may be dissimilar. The molecules having intermolecular hydrogen bonding have high melting and boiling points and low volatility. They are more soluble in water as compared to the molecules having intramolecular hydrogen bonding.

An example of a hydrogen bond is the bond between?

A common example of hydrogen bonding is the one between water molecules.Hydrogen bonding is an intermolecular type of bonding, so it occurs when the hydrogen of one molecule is attracted to the lone pairs of either Oxygen, Nitrogen or Fluorine because of their high electronegativity. Since water has two hydrogen atoms bonded to an oxygen atom with lone pairs, the hydrogen bonds occur when a hydrogen of one water molecule is attracted to the lone pairs on another water molecule.what else can you give me on hydrogenHydrogen bonding takes place between the hydrogen and oxygen.

What is the weakest type of bond and is involved in the bonding of water?

Water molecules are associated by hydrogen bonds but I suppose that these bonds are not the weakest.

Can alcohol mix more easily with fat than water?

no alcohol can not mix more easily with fats than water. this happens because in water- alcohol mixing hydrogen bonding is involved which mixes water readily with alcohol....while during fats- alcohol mixing there is no involvement of hydrogen bonding or any other stronger bonding due to oxidation which causes fats to lose its effective number of hydrogen.

Which molecule will not exhibit hydrogen bonding?

FON Remember this as it mean only hydrogen bonded to fluorine, oxygen and nitrogen will exhibit hydrogen bonding H2O ( water ) = hydrogen bonding as hydrogen is bonded to oxygen CO ( carbon monoxide ) = no hydrogen bonding Think electronegative differences.

What is the reason sodium reacts in water?

The metal reacts with water to form hydrogen Gas, the vigorous reaction causes the hydrogen to set fire; but WHY they react , is clearly to do with Ionic bonding, Metal+Non metals,
