This is somewhat more complicated than it might seem. First as most plastics are produced from petroleum or natural gas, which are nonrenewable resources, the plastics are nonrenewable. Second thermoplastics can be melted and recycled, but this is not true of thermoset plastics. But being recyclable does not make thermoplastics renewable.

Only bioplastics (from living things, e.g. vegetable oils) are renewable, because their source chemicals can be grown.
