Yep...ikr....im asking everyone the same questions.....lyk seriously im pretti much nervous
Often times before a hurricane comes there isn't very much noise because most animals have already sensed a storm coming and left, therefore you don't hear birds singing etc, etc,. It is often used as a phrase for people's life, like if your life was going really well someone that's a pessimist might say it's the quiet before the storm.
I'm assuming that this question implies how you can tell this without using advanced equipment. Some people believe that you can count the time between lightening and its associated thunder. If the time difference between the two follows an increasing trend then the storm is moving away from you. However if you just compare two different lightening strikes you cannot judge movement of the storm because lightening can strike up to 10 miles away from the center of the storm. Hope that helps.

It is going to be some gusty winds out in the north. The wind speed is going to be about 30 mph.
The quietness before a storm is due to the atmospheric conditions changing rapidly as the storm approaches. The lack of sound could be attributed to the wind direction shifting or the sound of thunder being muffled by the distance. This calm before the storm is often followed by strong winds, rain, and thunder as the storm arrives.
