No. There is not a time where the sun is completely gone and it is pitch black. From mid Nov to mid Jan, is the darkest days out of the year reaching post dusk like qualities. Up in the North of Alaska, during this time, the sun travels along the horizon for about 3 hours before it disappears again until the next day. This takes place in the mid hours of the day around 12-3 pm.
As far as the movie is concerned, there is not a month period of total darkness and then the sun rising above the horizon just in time to save the day. In a vampire sense, if there is to be direct contact of the suns rays to kill them, then maybe that could happen b/c the sun travels just at the horizon. There is light, but it's the same light you would see before the sun pops out over the horizon in the morning at your house. Movies, ya gotta love 'em. :)
Alaska does have extended periods of darkness during winter, but the famous "30 days of night" refers to Barrow, the northernmost city, where the sun sets on November 18 and doesn't rise again until January 22, resulting in about 65 days of darkness. Other parts of Alaska may experience varying degrees of darkness during winter, with some areas not experiencing total darkness for 67 days.
Alaska is very remote, the lowest ever documented is -81 degrees below zero. But think we have only had documents of temperature for Alaska for about 30-60years.
Well, that's a tough one, hmm, so that would be 2 mm avg. per day if June has 30 days in it. Idiot.
The state with the highest average yearly temperature in the United States is Florida. Florida has a warm subtropical climate with high temperatures throughout the year due to its proximity to the equator and the surrounding bodies of water.
A 30 percent chance of rain means there is a 3 in 10 chance it will rain in the specified area. It does not indicate the amount of rain that may fall, only the likelihood of precipitation occurring.
It is 67 days of night in Alaska. Its not pitch black like that new movie but there isn't much sunlight.
I don't think there is a name for it. sorry :(
i think its just the city of barrow and its surrounding areas. but that 30 days of night sounds freaky and glad im in new york lol [edit] Actually, the 30 days of night only occur in or around barrow. Southeast Alaska such as Anchorage and the rest of the Kenai Peninsula ( including Fairbanks) do not get the 30 days of night
Because it is not far enough north.
yes it is a vampire movie set in alaska
I'm pretty sure that dark days is the second one or sequel to 30 days of night

The places closest to the poles, such as the Arctic Circle, experience the longest days. In the Arctic, particularly locations like northern Norway, Alaska, Iceland, and Canada, the summer solstice can have over 24 hours of daylight, with the sun not setting for several days in a row due to the Earth's axial tilt.
