Chalk is not renewable because it is spread thin once you write with it, making it impossible to get it back off the surface you wrote it on. There is almost no easy or cheap way to collect all the dust and put it back into another new piece of chalk. A good question for this would be: "HOW would you renew chalk?" Chalk is a biodegradable substance though.
