∙ 9y agoSilicate tetrahedra. The tetrahedra are spanned by oxigen atoms, and right in the middle, there is a silicon atom. The chemical formula for one silicate tetrahedron is SiO4
The actual rate between silicon and oxigen can change as the tetrahedra are linked together, as different tetrahedra can share an oxigen atom with eachother.

These are the building blocks of silicates.
Minerals are called the 'building blocks' of rocks because each rock is 'built' with 2 or more minerals. For example, granite is made of feldspar, quartz, and mica. There are more than 2,700 minerals known today. Hope my answer could be helpful.
Silicates are found in just about every variety of rock, including sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic. The thing that differentiates silicates from other minerals is the presence of the element silicon in the matrix. It is silicon that silicate minerals are named for. Use link below to check out this huge family of minerals.
If silicon bonded with three oxygen atoms, the crystalline structures called framework would be three-dimensional, and silicate minerals will become lighter.
There is no material simply called "silicate," so this question does not have an answer. There is a mineral called silica. There is a whole class of minerals called silicates as a group. There is the element silicon. Once you specify which specific material you need the density of, then you can get an answer.

Because they combine in discrete definite proportions like building blocks.
