There is, of course, turnover of water in any lake or swamp that has an outlet, so that water moves in a technical sense, though the characterization of moving water would typically be reserved for water moving fast enough to be noticeable. A lake is a standing body of water, a stream is a flowing body of water. It is therefore almost meaningless to compare their sizes. However a stream usually flows into or out of a lake and therefore logically the lake will be bigger because it either receives or supplies all the water in the stream.
soil gets carried off by either wind, water or gravity and then the topsoil is carried into rivers which can increase a rivers water level. As well, soil carries its toxicity with it so if pesticides were being used on that soil it will carry that into the water and pollute it.
Water cycle helps in raising level of rivers. It can be used by mankind.
