The layers of the Earth:

The earth is divided into four main layers: the inner core, outer core, mantle and the crust.

The earths crust is like the skin of an apple. It is very thin compared to the other three layers. It makes up 1% of the earth. It is also broken down into many pieces called PLATES.

Next is the mantle. The mantle is the layer below the crust. The mantle is the largest layer of the earth. It is also divided into two regions: the upper and lower sections.

The core of the earth is like a ball. It is made of very HOT metals. It is also liquid. It is made up of iron and is very dense.

The outer core of the earth has temperatures and pressures so great that the metals are squeezed together and are not able to move. I thought you should now a little bit about the metals. Didn't want to leave them out.

The inner core: the inner core is solid.
