Well, an ecosystem is combined by; living organisms and non-living. An eco system can be as big as a country. Or as small as a leaf. We, ourselves, choose the size of the eco system we want to study. Mostly everything around us is an eco system. Even our body is an eco system, to bacterica and such things.

•Each person throws away approximately four pounds of garbage every day.

•One bus carries as many people as 40 cars!

•Each gallon of fuel releases 20 pounds of carbon dioxide into the air.

•Approximately 5 million tons of oil produced in the world each ear ends up in the ocean.

•The energy we save when we recycle one glass bottle is enough to light a traditional light bulb for four hours

•Every ton of paper that is recycled saves 17 trees

•The amount of wood and paper we throw away is enough to heat 50 million homes for 20 years

•84 percent of all household waste can be recycled.

•Computers pose an environmental threat because much of the material that makes them up is hazardous. A typical monitor contains 4-5 pounds of lead.

•Here is an example of the water we use everyday:

3-7 gallons for toilet,

25-30 gallons for tub,

50-70 gallons for a 10 minute shower,

1 washing machine load uses 25-40 gallons,

1 dishwasher load uses 9-12 gallons•Here is an example of how long it takes some things take to break down:

plastics take 500 years,

aluminum cans take 500 years,

organic materials, take 6 months,

cotton, rags, paper take 6 months.•Every year we throw away 24 million tons of leaves and grass. Leaves alone account for 75% of our solid waste in the fall.

•Over 100 pesticide ingredients are suspected to cause birth defects, cancer, and gene mutations.

•Every ton of recycled office paper saves 380 gallons of oil.

•Energy saved from one recycled aluminum can will operate a TV set for 3 hours, and is the equivalent to half a can of gasoline.

•Glass produced from recycled glass instead of raw materials reduces related air pollution by 20%, and water pollution by 50%.

•Americans use 50 million tons of paper annually -- consuming more than 850 million trees.

•Homeowners use up to 10 times more toxic chemicals per acre than farmers.

•Most people use about 12,000 gallons of water every year. These are a few interesting facts i found, .

zoology branch of biology concerned with the study of animal life. From earliest times animals have been vitally important to man; cave art demonstrates the practical and mystical significance animals held for prehistoric man. Early efforts to classify animals were based on physical resemblance, habitat, or economic use. Although Hippocrates and Aristotle did much toward organizing the scientific thought of their times, systematic investigation declined under the Romans and, after Galen's notable contributions, came to a virtual halt lasting through the Middle Ages (except among the Arab physicians). With the Renaissance direct observation of nature revived; landmarks were Vesalius' anatomy and Harvey's demonstration of the circulation of blood. The invention of the microscope and the use of experimental techniques expanded zoology as a field and established many of its branches, e.g., cytology and histology. Studies in embryology and morphology revealed much about the nature of growth and the biological relationships of animals. The system of binomial nomenclature (see classification ) was devised to indicate these relationships; Linnaeus was the first to make it consistent and apply it systematically. Paleontology, the study of fossil organisms, was founded as a science by Cuvier c.1812. Knowledge of physiological processes expanded greatly when physiology was integrated with the chemical and other physical sciences. The establishment of the cell theory in 1839 and the acceptance of protoplasm as the stuff of life 30 years later gave impetus to the development of genetics. Lamarck, Mendel, and Darwin presented concepts that revolutionized scientific thought. Their theories of evolution and of the physical basis of heredity prompted research into all life processes and into the relationships of all organisms. The classic work of Pasteur and Koch opened up bacteriology as a field. Modern zoology has not only concentrated on the cell, its parts and functions, and on expanding the knowledge of cytology, physiology, and biochemistry, but it has also explored such areas as psychology, anthropology, and ecology.

The sum of all external factors, both biotic(living) and abiotic (nonliving), to which an organism is exposed. Biotic factors include influences by members of the same and other species on the development and survival of the individual. Primary abiotic factors are light, temperature, water, atmospheric gases, and ionizing-radiation, influencing the form and function of the individual.

For each environmental factor, an organism has a tolerance range, in which it is able to survive. The intercept of these ranges constitutes the ecological-nicheof the organism. Different individuals or species have different tolerance ranges for particular environmental factors-this variation represents the adaptation of the organism to its environment. The ability of an organism to modify its tolerance of certain environmental factors in response to a change in them represents the plasticity of that organism. Alterations in environmental tolerance are termed acclimation. Exposure to environmental conditions at the limit of an individual's tolerance range represents environmental stress.
