The Mohawk River in what is New York State, was the original territory of the Mohawk Nation. The river was the main form of transportation for the Nation. Mohawk Vally was also the main area for most Mohawk villages and farmlands. With European settlers moving into the valley the Mohawk Nation was pressured to slowly move out of the area.
