Some environmental issues that are affecting the Boreal Cordillera are the relatively small population in the part of (B.C) British Columbia that is located in this ecozone that does not prevent land use conflicts. Therefore a great deal of the important land for residential, agricultural and wildlife habitats are located in confined valleys. Then there is the fact that the timber industry is cutting out large pieces of the ecozones forest; 62% to be accurate which is forested. As well, the forest was also being damaged by an insect called the spruce beetle which destroyed several amounts of spruce trees. Lastly are contaminated foods which occur due to sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide that has been evaporated into the air in southern regions and is then carried north by the wind. When the atmospheric conditions vary, the contaminants fall as rain or snow to the ground. Then animals eat it and the contaminants are then stored in their tissue building up over a lifetime. Eventually when humans hunt those contaminated animals they can affect our health when consumed.
